Students brought in empty shoeboxes (or boxes with a similar size and shape). While students were at Gym class, Mrs. Treusch placed one item in each box, at random. Students had to lift the boxes, tip them, roll them, and shake them. They wrote what they observed with their senses. Then they wrote their top three inferences about what they thought was in their box. When we all opened the boxes, it was fun to see if we were right about our inferences.
Some of the items ended up being post-it notes, crayons, white-out tape, bandaids, and unopened tissue boxes. Each item definitely felt different and sounded different than the others!
