All of the 6th graders had so much fun at our Trade Fair today! Each student made between 5 and 20 of the same type of item, and then we all traded with each other. We learned more about the Traditional Economic System that we read about in Social Studies class. Even Mrs. Treusch made items to trade! She traded homemade greeting cards and is very happy with her trading decisions! She wishes she could have had at least one of each student’s item, but some students only made a handful of their item. Everyone had a good time and was patient and understanding if someone could not trade with them or did not want to make the trade. Excellent job, 6th graders!
Mrs. Treusch was told a couple of days ago about a field trip opportunity that she just couldn't pass up!
Since we are talking about different economic systems, including market economy and supply and demand, in Social Studies class, this will be a great opportunity for the 6th graders. We will be going on a field trip to Elliott's Bakery in Trenton to help make baked goods and to talk to the owner, Kris (pictured to the left in the photograph below), about what it's like to run a small business. Permission slips were passed out to students today. Our field trip will take place on Friday, October 25th after lunch (around 1:05 pm) and end before school lets out (around 2:50 pm). We will be back at school for dismissal, as Elliott's Bakery is less than a block away from school. If you would like to chaperone this field trip, please let Mrs. Treusch know! Students could have picked from 1 of 3 project options to show the phases of the moon and lunar cycle. Most students chose the option that works with Oreo cookies!
Thank you to everyone who has donated peanut butter to the dogs at the Michigan Humane Society! We still have a week and a half to donate!
👍🏻 Here are just a handful of pictures of the visual prayers we did yesterday. The prompt was to do a prayer card for somebody in their family. Some students chose to do siblings while others chose a grandparent, parent, aunt or uncle, cousin, or pet.
Did you know that Mrs. Treusch and Mrs. Mullins are part of the St. Joseph Catholic School Outreach Group? That means that they reach out to people in our community who may need help and try to come up with ways to assist them. Mrs. Treusch read online newspaper articles about the Michigan Humane Society, who took in needy pets who were going to be displaced from Hurricane Dorian. As a result of the Michigan Humane Society doing this, they are in need of some cat and dog supplies. That's where you can come in! The 6th grade class is in charge of bringing in creamy peanut butter that is xylitol-free (so it doesn't harm dogs). They use this peanut butter as a treat and to put into Kong toys. For the next two weeks, please consider donating! Please have your student bring in any and all donations to the classroom. Mrs. Treusch will collect it and take it personally to the nearest Michigan Humane Society location. Thank you very much! |
